Magic magic magic

I went to a magic show last month, and I was very pleasantly surprised. In fact, it got me excited about street magic again (Where’d you go, David Blaine?) and I’ve been catching some of the Friday night magic competitions on the Korean channel.

This guy was the real deal. I’m talking snatch the watch off my dad’s wrist without him knowing it was gone. And like a true magician, he was nice enough to share some of his secrets. After the entertaining show, he came up to me and offered to do some more card tricks. Of course, I said yes.

He had ten cards and asked me to choose one card each from five pairs blindly to beat him with a better poker hand. I ended up with a full house with Aces and was feeling pretty good about myself. That is, until he flipped over his royal flush. That snake.

The other card trick was the Three-card Monte, which I was familiar with. It’s your hand-is-quicker-than-the-eye trick and really renders you helpless in finding the right card whether you know how the trick is done. Here’s a fun clip of the game playing out on the streets, and it’s kind of sad because I can only imagine how many people have been duped by this game like this poor sap.

But like I said, my magician was the real deal so he used straight magic on these cards right before my eyes. Magic like this.
