Snitch review

Seen at a pre-release screening in Burbank:

This drama thriller answers two questions we all might have wondered at some point: 1) What if I decided to make easy money as a drug trafficker? and 2) How far is a dad willing to go to lessen his son’s prison sentence? And I mean a very relatable everyman figure, not a specialized assassin like in Taken.

This grim look exposing the flaw in the current drug sentencing law of a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in prison for a first-time drug offender with intent to distribute might be Dwayne Johnson‘s most serious acting role to date. He delivers none of the ass-kicking I expected at every moment in the movie, and it looks to be the start of Johnson branching out to roles with a little more depth, with five movies on his slate for next year.

A very honest and procedural look at a man’s actions to get his son out of prison, my friend I watched it with said it was what Traffic should’ve been. Well, if that movie got a 7.7 IMDb rating, consequentially, mine is as follows.

Absolutely loved the cast, which included Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Susan Sarandon as the District Attorney, Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), JD Pardo as the gangster from the Mexican drug cartel and my favorite, Barry Pepper as the wildly-bearded DEA agent.

Snitch opens in theaters in 2013.

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

What it should be: 8.0

Recommend

After the movie, I went down to Dog Haus Biergarten, one of many cool spots along an alleyway in Old Town Pasadena. See, this is what I want: a tasty burger for $6.25. I got the special of the day with bleu cheese and their King’s Hawaiian Bread, which was good but fell apart on me from being too soft, and chili cheese fries. I highly recommend this place, which is also known for its hot dogs and beer.

  2. Tell the truth, Bryan. The burger fell apart because you just hold food incorrectly every time. I ordered the exact same and mine was intact from start to finish.
