Seen at a pre-release screening in Los Angeles:

Another honest film, this one a buddy cop comedy-drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. I never watched The Wire, but I get the sense this movie has a lot of similarities in portraying real-life Mexican gangsters in their natural speech (though, I know The Wire didn’t invent this) in contrast with the two partners, as well as how the whole movie is shot with Gyllenhaal’s character taping everything.

Gyllenhaal and Pena have amazing chemistry, really capture what I imagine the relationship of two partners on the force to be and are actually pretty hilarious throughout the movie. A must-watch for anyone into cop shows and movies, which is about 90% of primetime TV. One of my favorite of the year.

End of Watch opens in theaters on September 28.
