Moonrise Kingdom review

Seen at a screening in Irvine:

I know I said I wouldn’t give a 5-star rating to a movie under 90 minutes, but rules were made to be broken. My first live-action Wes Anderson movie (shame on me) has me seeing what all the buzz is about over Anderson’s distinct shooting and wonderfully offbeat films. This is actually currently the best of Anderson’s seven films per IMDb, with none worse than a 7.1.

With an incredible cast which includes Edward Norton, Bruce Willis and Bill Murray, the stars are actually two first-time child actors who capture the essence of teenage romance. An exciting journey and humorous throughout, this movie set the all-time record for theater average after raking in over half a million dollars from just four theaters opening weekend. No. 1 Men in Black 3 had a per theater average of $16,000 – just a whole zero less.

Moonrise Kingdom is playing in limited release.

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

IMDb rating: 8.2
What it should be: 8.2

Mesmerizing song.
